Deck Restoration, Sealing & Staining Services

What is the difference between TimberGuard and other contractors that may perform a similar service?

TimberGuard uses a proprietary process utilizing cleaners and brighteners that allow us to safely restore your wood with much lower pressures and a gentle cleaning approach.  The cleaners and brighteners act to break down the failed finishes, oxidation, dirt, grime, mold and mildew so that they can be rinsed away with 800 psi or less in a very non-aggressive approach.  Learn more about TimberGuard's Process.

When choosing a contractor, homeowners should be extremely mindful of the finishing product they intend to apply.  The bottom line rests in that most finishes are designed with a purpose in mind.  Unfortunately, some of the technologies behind those finishes are still lacking.  In every box store in the nation you’ll find acrylic and latex based deck stains.  These solid in nature finishes give a painted appearance to anything you apply them to due to their opaque nature.  Unfortunately, it's usually only months to a year later that homeowners find out something awful.... ITS PEELING!  The honest answer to this problem is that, to date, the manufacturers have not engineered an acrylic or latex finish that will hold up on horizontal deck surfaces exposed to the weather.  They continue to market these alternatives, but the truth is they will create a very large problem for you in the near future leaving you with one of two options.

Option 1: Clean and re-coat the surface with the same or similar product annually as it peels and chips away....or....

Option 2: Hire a contractor to come in and remove the mess in order to get it down to a stable and sound surface.  An extremely difficult but not impossible task.

The Solution?

TIMBERGUARD.  At TimberGuard we’re tried and true believers that Penetrating Oil-Based Finishes are the only way to go for exterior wood maintenence.  Natural oils and sugars are washed and depleted from the wood over the years as it weathers, so it only makes sense to replenish what’s lost.  There are a number of benefits to using an oil-based finish over other exterior wood products, such as: oils do not chip or peel, oils enhance the beauty and characteristics of the wood instead of covering it up with a coating that sits on the surface, and quality oils hold up longer, just to name a few.

One thing to note, however, is that not all oil-based products are created equal.  As if there wasn’t enough for you to worry about!
